Breast is an important part of a woman’s body. It not only creates a feminine appeal but also a great part of motherhood in terms of breast milk. It therefore requires utmost care.
Bras come in variety of sizes and in different materials such as satin, cotton, silk and even lace bras. Most ladies choose beauty in bras without considering their bra size. Wearing a wrong bra size poses health dangers and confidence issues. These include:
- Breast and back pain
This is the common side effect of wearing the wrong size bra. Wearing a bra that is too small will result in pressure on your rib cage and shoulders that you simply won’t be able to fix until you size up.
- Shoulder and neck pain
The pain you feel on your shoulder and neck could be because your bra is too tight. Larger cup size bras are typically designed with thicker scraps to disperse weight across your shoulder and prevent chafing or indentation.
- Blocked lymph nodes
Lymphatic vessels on the breast are very thin; they can easily be compressed with constant minimum pressure from tight fitting bras. This pressure can close the lymph valves and vessels.
- Skin problems
An improper bra size can cause blisters on the skin around the breast especially when the size is small and it is very tight around the breast.
- Trigger breast cancer.
Wearing a wrong size bra can trigger breast cancer especially when the bra is too tight it tends to block blood flow to the breast which can cause cancer.
- Sagging breasts
Loose bras fail to lift the breasts and keep them in shape. This makes them heavier hence the sagging.
- Shapeless form
When you wear a wrong sized bra, you will not have the sleek, elegant look that you desire. Your breast will look shapeless and unattractive.
- Inadequate support
Large breasted women are always faced with battle of finding bras that fit them. A bra that fits properly should not rid up at the back nor should bra straps digs into the shoulders, leaving behind red marks. A wrong size bra will not provide enough coverage for the breast. If your breasts are spilling out of your bra from all angles, then you are wearing a wrong bra.
- Bad body posture
Wearing wrong size bra often changes a person posture. This can lead to slouching rather than sitting and standing upright, as well an unexplained back and neck pain. You should get measured every 6 months since woman’s bust size usually change throughout her life due to hormonal reasons, pregnancy, weight loss and other factors.
This brings us to the million dollar question; how do you choose the right bra?
- Recheck the size of the breast every six months as the shape and size of breast changes constantly.
- A bra with a smaller back and a large cup size should be taken if the breasts are spilling out.
- The center of the bra must sit between the breasts.
- The band must support the breasts weight in the mid to lower back. If the bra is on the upper side of the back a smaller size bra must be taken.
- If the bra is leaving red marks or digging at the armpits, a bigger cup is needed. If the shoulders are becoming sore, bras with padded or broad straps are recommended.
