While John and his friends were taking lunch in a certain restaurant, cigarette smoke began drifting all over. At first John tried to ignore since the place he was had a sign “NO SMOKING”. But he politely asked the person who was smoking to observe the No smoking rule.

John behaved assertively when he stood up for his rights as a non-smoker. Could you be assertive the same way john did? If not, you are not alone.

Assertiveness is a skill that many people find difficult to practice. However, it is important to be assertive as it helps you feel more confident.  It emphasizes the good feeling that you can express your needs and stand up for yourself without hurting others.

By being assertive, you express your feelings honestly hence respecting your rights and of others. You will have a better chance of getting what you want only when you are assertive.
